Cellular shades — also called honeycomb shades — are built from pleated cells that trap a layer of air against the glass. That pocket of air is what slows heat moving through the window, holding warmth in through winter and out through summer, and it makes these the most insulating option we carry.

The light-filtering fabric softens daylight and gives daytime privacy while keeping the room bright, rather than shutting the window down entirely. Cell size is selectable: a smaller cell reads as a finer, more detailed pleat, while a larger cell gives a deeper insulating pocket and a more relaxed line.

Measuring your window

Measure the width first, then the height, in inches. Take the width at three points across the opening and use the smallest — window openings are rarely perfectly square. Rough numbers are fine for a quote; we confirm exact sizes with you before anything is cut.

Inside mount (IM) sits inside the window opening for a clean, recessed look. Measure the opening itself and send those numbers as they are — don’t subtract anything for clearance, we apply the factory deduction.

Outside mount (OM) fixes to the wall or trim outside the opening and covers more than the glass. It is the better choice where an opening is out of square, or too shallow to hold a blind. Tell us the area you want covered and we confirm the overlap with you.

Send the raw opening size. The factory takes the bracket deduction for an inside mount — if you subtract it as well, the finished shade comes out too narrow.
Inside mount: measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening and send us the smallest of the three. Openings are rarely square.
Measure the height at the left, centre and right and send us the longest, so the shade covers the whole opening.
Measure the depth of the opening too. The headrail needs a flat run of depth to sit in — send us the number and we will confirm it clears before anything is cut.
A raised cellular shade gathers into a small stack at the top of the opening, much shallower than the slat stack on a wood or faux wood blind, so an inside mount usually still leaves most of the glass clear.
Outside mount: you need flat wall or trim above and to each side of the opening for the brackets to land on. Check there is nothing in the way.
Measure every window separately, even ones that look identical. Openings in the same room are routinely out by a quarter inch or more.
Rough numbers are fine for the quote. The final order wants the nearest 1/8 inch.
